High School Stats:

Theobald was a three year starter at Seton Hall Prep, leaving his mark by earning all-state first team honors the last two years.  He flew all over the field, amassing 165 tackles while adding two forced fumbles and a blocked punt.  Scout.com lists Theobald as the top inside linebacker in his state and Rivals has him as the 22nd best prospect in the recruiting hot-bed that is New Jersey.

Addazio’s Take:

“Paul Theobald, linebacker from Seton Hall Prep … Very instinctive guy. Physical guy. Anthony Campanile’s brother, Vito, coached him. Just a really good football player. He’s going to come up here and can move well, tough, gets to the ball, great vision. Love him.”

Theobald on Commitment:

“I chose Boston College because of the high academic program it has to offer while competing with some of the best schools in the country.  My first time on campus it seemed like a great fit for me.  The coaches seemed perfect with their high intensity during practice and their passion and lovefor the game and just in general the entire program seemed like one family.  I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play for Coach Addazio and his entire coaching staff and I can’t wait to get up there this summer.  Go Eagles!”

Our Take:

Theobald is full of upside.  He’s got strength, an ability to shed blocks, and a great frame.  Right now, he looks like he will develop into a very strong run defender in a short time, but the real key to his success at Boston College will be if he’s able to improve his pass coverage skills.  He’s going to need to improve his speed in order to keep up with the plethora of pass catching backs in the ACC.  With the right coaching, Theobald could poised to be a prime contributor on the BC defense by his sophomore season.
