Boston College Men’s Soccer defeated the University of Vermont, 1-0, on Thursday night in the opening round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Behind a stellar performance by senior goalkeeper Alex Kapp, the Eagles blanked the Catamounts and will advance to play the South Florida Bulls on Sunday in the second round.

Freshman forward Simon Enstrom (above) scored for BC in the 71st minute of play. Junior Zeiko Lewis and sophomore Len Zeugner received assists on the play. Enstrom, who has had a very impressive first year on the Heights, battled injuries all match before placing the lone goal behind UVM keeper Greg Walton. He exited the match immediately after, appearing to be in some pain. Nonetheless, Enstrom’s team-leading eighth goal of the season proved to be the game-winner.

Vermont, however, controlled possession and the tempo for much of the second half. The Catamounts outshot the Eagles 6-5 in the first half and 10-3 in the second, but were unable to get anything past Kapp. Atobra Ampadu played a particularly strong game defensively for the Eagles, breaking up several Vermont scoring opportunities.

Additionally, the ACC recently announced its All-Conference teams for the regular season. Representing the Eagles were Lewis (2nd team midfielder), Zeugner (3rd team defense), and Enstrom (All-Freshman team). The full listing can be found here. The Eagles will visit No. 14 USF on Sunday, in an attempt to advance to the Sweet 16.
