247 Sports will be doing a recap of the 2016-17 Boston College Men’s Basketball Season, going over where each player improved throughout the year, their best performance of the season and what we hope to see them add, heading into the 2017-18 campaign.

Ky Bowman came into his freshman year at Boston College as a 3 star recruit, ranked 357 in 247Sports’ composite rankings. Nicknamed “The First 48”, a reference to the A&E crime show and his body count of dunk victims, Ky was initially slotted behind fellow Freshman Ty Graves but by the time BC played Auburn in the Under Armour Reunion game at Madison Square Garden, Bowman was starting and, in Coach Jim Christian’s words “He’s our Quarterback” (https://twitter.com/WZBCSports/status/815650325487124480).

Ky came out strong in the 1st ACC game of his career, leading BC to a rout over Syracuse and helping the Eagles get their first conference win in 664 days. He knocked in 7 three-pointers, part of a Conte Forum record 16, and was active driving to the basket and kicking out to open teammates on his way to a season high 9 dimes. Bowman displayed every tool on the toolbox, pulling up at will from deep, muscling his way to tough finishes and even finding his backcourt mate Jerome Robinson for a pretty alley-oop (http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=18387662).

Looking Forward:

Ky improved tremendously, honing a jumper that become lethal by the end of the year, and showing off a physicality other guards couldn’t match. He does need to work on tightening his handle, almost 3 turnovers a game is high, even for someone with has the ball as much as Bowman. He has the quickness and moves to get by defenders at will but with a little more work some of the sloppy crossovers that bounce off his foot can turn into more dynamic drives to the hoop and either a powerful finish by Ky or a dish to one of his teammates. He and Jerome will once again be the alpha dogs next season for the Eagles and building off the aggressiveness he showed during ACC play this year will be key in continuing to build up the young guard’s starpower and bring this team to the next level.
