Eagles Win Third-Straight, Sweep Vermont

By Christian Guma

The Boston College Eagles defeated the Vermont Catamounts by a score of 3-2 on the Heights tonight. This was the Eagles’ third straight victory, all in the Hockey East, allowing BC to jump to 3-1 in conference, and 3-5 overall.

David Cotton started things off quickly for the Eagles as he scored one minute into the 1st period. The Eagles created multiple scoring opportunities later that period, but couldn’t cash in. Shortly after a penalty kill, the Cats tied things up with a Vlad Dzhioshvili goal and the two teams ended the first period tied at 1.

The Eagles got off to a hot start in the second period with a Julius Mattila goal, just three minutes in. Then after two BC penalties within a minute of each other, the Cats capitalized on a 5 on 3 opportunity to tie the game up at 2. To end the second period, David Cotton scored his second goal of the night and gave the Eagles the lead with 21 ticks left in the period.

Things were quiet for the first part of the third period, with the Eagles still up 3-2. The Cats had a power play at the 10 minute mark, but the Eagles stifled it and came up with the clutch penalty kill. The Eagles held the lead as time expired and clinched the 3-2 victory
