BC Hockey Slated to Take Part in Inaugural Ice Vegas Invitational

It certainly didn’t take long for Coach York and the BC athletics department to capitalize on a link with rising sophomore forward Graham McPhee’s father (GM of the new Las Vegas Knights and former player under York, George McPhee).  This coming January, BC will be among the first four college teams to skate at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A two-day tournament, the Eagles will join Arizona State, Northern Michigan, and Michigan Tech out in Sin City for a pair of mid-break games.

Regardless of your opinions on these tournaments over the winter break, (opinions likely at an all-time low given that the Eagles’ performance in Pittsburgh while missing some of their key cogs this winter began their downfall) this is a very cool opportunity for BC. Clearly the most established of the four teams in the tournament, Boston College has a chance to really showcase itself in a tournament that will have plenty of eyes on it if for no other reason than its gimmicky nature.

Coach York played into this sentiment when asked about the tournament, saying, “We are always thrilled to showcase our program in new and exciting parts of the country against some of the top talent across the nation. We are honored to be a part of this tournament and excited to get there.”

While a hockey season full of question marks (yet somehow still the most promising of the major sports next year) is over five months away, this is still a nice event to have down the line and to get excited for.
