Rain Washing Away Weekend of Birdball

Rain Washing Away Weekend of Birdball

By Anthony Iati

Boston College Baseball was rained out on Saturday afternoon amidst steady rain and unplayable field conditions. The Eagles were set to face off with the Florida State Seminoles in the second game of their three-game series at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at Shea Field this weekend. The original schedule called for Saturday’s game to be played at 1:00 pm. However, forecasts of heavy rain pushed up the start time to 11:00 am. The teams set a goal of squeezing in a doubleheader to avoid playing Sunday, with more rain and even some snow in the forecast. Instead, they did not play a single inning. After moving the start time again, this time until 2:30 pm, the entire day of games was cancelled.

The Eagles and Seminoles hope to play on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm. If they fit that game in, FSU will leave the Heights having played only one game less than originally scheduled. Considering all the hectic time changes and wild weather, that would not be so bad.

On Friday afternoon, BC fell 3-0 to the ‘Noles, squandering a strong outing from starting pitcher Mike King. Friday’s WZBC Sports broadcast team of TJ Hartnett, Casey Hague, and Michael Graziano will also be on the call tomorrow afternoon on wzbc.org/#am.
