Game Picks: Syracuse vs. Boston College

Game Picks: Syracuse vs. Boston College

By: WZBC Sports Staff

Syracuse (17-8, 7-5 ACC) visits Boston College (7-17, 0-11). ‘Cuse got the best of BC when the two teams faced off at the Carrier Dome as they beat the Eagles 62-40. That game was the lowest scoring game for the Eagles this season, and was one they probably would like to forget. BC is fresh off a three point loss in a thriller against UNC at Conte Forum. Dennis Clifford had the best game of his career on the Heights finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Eagles will need him to have another big game if they want to get their first ACC win. BC will be without Jerome Robinson and likely will be without A.J. Turner.

You can listen to the game on WZBC 90.3 FM or wzbc.org/#listen. Casey Hague, Ryan Poor and Anthony Iati will be on the call. The WZBC Sports broadcasters make their picks:

syracuse59-52 The Eagles keep it close again, but drop their 12th straight in the ACC. They are again unable to solve Jim Boeheim’s vaunted 2-3 zone defense, as Michael Gbinije and Tyler Roberson do just enough offensively against BC’s forwards sans AJ Turner.
Andrew Kelley

Junior, 2-0

syracuse 68-54Eli Carter’s usage rate will be extremely high. No Robinson and no Turner means an extra dosage of Eli Carter and I think Boeheim will have his squad ready for that. Clifford will have to play like he did against UNC if the Eagles want to pull this one out.
Quinn Kelly

Soph., 2-0

74-58 Coming off their best performance of the year, the Eagles will come out with a wealth of energy. This unfortunately will not cover the skill gap, though, and BC falls to Cuse 74-58.
Steve McAlee

Soph., 2-0

syracuse  60-52With a healthy Jerome Robinson and AJ Turner at this point in the season, after all the enormous ACC challenges this team has went through and learned from, I wouldn’t be surprised to see BC’s first conference win come now. Unfortunately, though, both star freshmen are injured. Syracuse is a solid team that has played a consistently strong schedule all year to get to 17-8. Syracuse only goes about six or seven deep on the team, but BC’s depth is hurt at the moment so the Eagles don’t have an edge there. I think Eli Carter and the new spark Sammy Barnes-Thompkins keep it close with strong shooting against the Syracuse zone defense, but on a bitterly cold Sunday in Conte Forum, the Orange walk away with the win.
Ryan Poor

Senior, 2-0

65-58
I really believe BC will give Syracuse a tough fight the entire game, despite injuries to both Jerome Robinson and AJ Turner. I think the Eagles will be hungry for revenge after getting blown out by the Orange in Syracuse back in January. However, when it comes down to the wire, the Orange are led by lead-scorer Michael Gbinije as they break into a late lead that BC cannot match. The Orange prevail and increase their current win streak to five games.

The Pick: Syracuse (Not unanimous. Graz goes out on a limb. Let’s hope his prediction is correct.)
