Fitzgerald, Kim, Brown Named 2017-2018 Captains

This past Sunday at the annual postseason Pike’s Peak Hockey Banquet, Coach Jerry York announced that the team had determined who would serve as captains for the upcoming season.  Given the absence of a 2018 class, three juniors will don Cs and act as de facto leaders of a young Eagles squad in 2017-2018.

Casey Fitzgerald, Michael Kim, and Christopher Brown will take the reigns next year, taking over for a productive yet unfortunately unsuccessful class of captains this past year.

Fitzgerald, a junior defenseman, is the most experienced of the bunch, having played in 76 games over the past two seasons.  The blue-liner has 49 career points, 40 of which came as assists.  Casey will be the second Fitzgerald in as many years to wear the captain’s patch, following his brother Ryan’s footsteps as a leader for the Eags.

Kim, an on-and-off defensive pair-mate of Fitzgerald, has played in 64 career games after joining the Eagles at the winter break last year.  Kim showed perhaps the most growth of the trio this year, working out some of his rookie kinks and becoming one of the Eagles most consistent and best defensemen in his sophomore campaign.  Kim has 27 career points with 21 helpers at BC.

Brown, the only forward in the bunch, has played in 75 games for the Eagles, including being the only skater to play in all 41 games in the 2015-2016 season.  Coming onto the scene this year, Brown notched 26 points to bring his career total to 37.  His 17 assists were tied for fourth on the team this year (with fellow captain Casey Fitzgerald and an assist above Michael Kim).

The group has a tall task ahead of them to lead such a young group trying to wipe away the memories of a disappointing 2016-2017 campaign.  They are a poised trio, though, and may be just what the team needs to return to the NCAA tournament in 2018.  Best of luck to our new captains!
