E.Coli Outbreak Sweeps Through Men’s Basketball Team
By Anthony Iati
As has been previously reported by Sporting News and BC Interruption, eight members of the Boston College Men’s Basketball team have reported symptoms of E.Coli in the past few days. Several players awoke early Sunday morning and called Coach Jim Christian to tell them they were ill and were questionable for that day’s game vs. UMass-Lowell (a 68-66 Eagles loss). Starting center Dennis Clifford, for one, sat out the game with what was first labeled “food poisoning.”
The team and university health services have since connected the E.Coli surge to the Chipotle Mexican Grill in Cleveland Circle right near campus. As a popular, local dining option for BC students, the symptoms have similarly plagued non-athletes who have also eaten there recently. Other Chipotle branches had already been under heavy scrutiny for E.Coli concerns in the past several weeks.
BC Health Services has since emailed the entire student body warning them of this issue. There is no sign as of yet regarding how the illness will affect BC’s road tilt at Providence on Wednesday evening.
