Boston College Dominates #7 Notre Dame

Friday December 6, Boston College defeated their rival Notre Dame 4-0, extending their winning streak to eight games.

After a scoreless and fast paced first period, Boston College came out hard on the power play with Julius Mattila scoring off a Notre Dame turnover with assists from David Cotton and Logan Hutsko. After taking the lead, BC was tested by having to kill two penalties, which they did with ease. Twelve minutes later, Boston College scored again off a tip in by Hutsko, extending BC’s lead to two goals. Notre Dame was unable to get the puck out of their zone and Hutsko was able to capitalize. Just two minutes later shorthanded, Patrick Giles scored unassisted off a Notre Dame turnover in the neutral zone.

In the third period, after a competitive twelve minutes filled with great goaltending from Spencer Knight, Cotton was able to find the back of the net giving BC its fourth and final goal. While the Eagle’s defense came up big, Spencer Knight did what he needed to do making a few key stops and secured the shutout.

After a 2-4 start to the year for the Eagles, it seems the team has finally found their rhythm. Knight has looked elite after being chosen the Hockey East Rookie of the Month in November saving all 26 of the shots on goal. BC’s offense, specifically, the first line looked great. The Eagles just wanted it more and this is a promising sign as Notre Dame is a top ten team.

Next, Boston College will play Notre Dame again in South Bend December 8.
