High School Stats:
Haynes led Cathedral Catholic to state championships twice during his high school career. As a senior, he passed for 1,981 yards and threw 22 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He also ran for 692 yards and seven touchdowns. In his 38-35 state championship victory over St. Mary’s, he threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns.
Addazio’s Take:
“Tate Haynes is an elite athlete. Tate Haynes was the starting quarterback of their team that won the state championship. When we’re talking about Tate Haynes, we’re talking about a guy who is maybe one of the best athletes in the top two of our class to come in here now.”
“We’re going to bring him in as a quarterback, but we have had a lot of conversation about he’s an elite corner. I mean, he’s a natural corner. But he’s a leader as a quarterback. He’s got a lot of it, you know what I mean. He’s one of those guys that has a lot of stick. He led his team to the state championship, you know. You can tell that he’s got that about him.”
Haynes on Commitment:
“I chose BC so I could receive a prestigious education, learn from experienced coaches, and have an opportunity to play in one of the toughest conferences in college football.”
Our Take:
Coaches love versatility, and Coach Addazio is no exception, as he repeatedly made note of Haynes’ athleticism and intangibles. Tate Haynes, the son of NFL Hall of Fame defensive back Mike Haynes, has tremendous upside; even though we’re not sure where he’ll be playing, it looks like he’ll be a huge asset to the team. Coach Addazio made it clear that he doesn’t want to pigeon-hole Haynes at the QB position, so it will be exciting to see at what position he will flourish! He’ll be accompanied by fellow Cathedral Catholic signee Patrick Brown, and will join former teammate Ray Smith at Boston College. He’s also a talented musician, which is pretty sweet!
