High School Stats:

Long spent the past year at Deerfield Academy where he racked up 30 receptions for 508 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  He finished the season ranked as the fourth-best player in Massachusetts and the tops at his position in the state according to Rivals and Scout.com respectively.  He also played on defense for Deerfield, succeeding on both sides of the ball as so many in this Eagles class did.

Addazio’s Take:

“Hunter Long from Deerfield Academy … Tremendous vertical leap, great 40 speed, just really good route runner, really developed physically over the course of the last year, and we think we’ve got a real great player here that is a very athletic tight end.”

Long on Commitment:

“I chose BC for their combination of great academics and high-level football and the instant connections with most of the coaches along with the other guys coming in in my class.  I can’t wait to get there in the summer and start my career as a BC Eagle.”

Our Take:

On paper, Hunter Long looks a lot like former Eagles receiver Charlie Callinan.  Long comes in at just about the size Callinan graduated at, standing the same height and holding a roughly ten pound weight advantage over the recent graduate.  He possesses great speed, clocking in with a 4.58 40 yard dash.  Long looks like a kid who could find his home in this offense playing a similar hybrid tight end/wide receiver that Callinan did before him.  Long had mostly seen interest from Division 1-AA and lower FBS schools, but he was beginning to garner some attention from bigger name schools when BC offered him in June.  With the shift in the offensive mindset of the Eagles, Long has some pretty god upside.  His speed is definitely his most intriguing asset.
