BC Falls to Miami, Just Misses College World Series
Boston College’s quest to reach the College World Series fell short Sunday afternoon as they lost in Game 3 to Miami. The final score was 4-9, but the Eagles stayed close throughout much of the game before Miami’s Edgar Michelangeli blasted a grand slam in the 7th inning to put the Hurricanes ahead 9-3. It was his second homer of the game, and the also the nail in the coffin on BC’s season.
BC finished first in the Oxford regional before taking on Miami in the Coral Gables Super Regional. Friday night’s Game 1 was marked by early weather delays, big blasts from Miami’s sluggers, and a subpar performance from the Eagles’ top pitcher, Justin Dunn. Although BC’s big 9th inning rally came up short, it gave them some momentum going into Saturday’s Game 2. After trailing 0-2 early on, the Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take the lead for good. After a nearly three hour lightning delay before the ninth inning commenced, Miami had the tying run at the plate in their star catcher, Zack Collins. Collins was drafted 10th overall in this month’s MLB Draft, but BC’s Bobby Skogsbergh struck him out to end the game.
The Eagles, only one game away from the College World Series, were unable to push through in Game 3. Sunday’s loss marked the end of a spectacular season for Boston College that they will look to build upon in the coming years.
