Quick Lane Bowl Predictions

Quick Lane Bowl Predictions

By Quinn Kelly

Here we are folks, the final game predictions of the 2016 football season (someday, someway, we’ll make it to the other side of the New Year and will find ourselves writing the 201x-201y season).  Two excellent previews for the game were written by Anthony Iati.  You can find them here and here.  They’re pretty all-encompassing so this will be strictly our staff’s predictions for the game.  We thank you for continuing to turn to WZBC for the most finger-on-the-pulse coverage of BC athletics this football season.

You can listen to WZBC’s coverage of the game by clicking the link on our homepage or by tuning in to WZBC Newton 90.3 FM on local radio or the TuneIn app.  Casey Hague and Andrew Kelley will be live from Ford Field in Detroit in just a couple of hours, and Conor Hawley will be back with the Hot Takes Halftime Show in the studio.

Now on to the predictions:

Quinn KellyBC 17-13This season feels a turning point for the program.  For as tough as the season was at some points and as frustrated as people have been with the program, the team managed to garner a pair of ACC wins en route to a bowl bid.  The team kept their heads down and got the job done.  Now with a couple of high profile recruits coming in for next year, it feels as though the air of darkness is lifting from over Alumni Stadium, and some people from outside have some interest.  The Eagles will sense the need to capitalize on that and will pick up their first bowl win in 9 years.  In a battle of programs trying to restore their former glory, BC’s defense will carry the Eagles to victory.
Scott GeymanBC 24-21
Steve McAleeBC 27-24As badly as BC wants this win, the Terps want it just as bad. BC has not won a bowl game in 9 years, and Maryland is trying to get back on to the competitive landscape with a first-year head coach (and they haven’t won a bowl game in 6 years), so motivation on BC’s side won’t carry the day alone at Ford Field. However, Patrick Towles has finally reached a bowl game in his fifth year of college football, and Addazio understands very well what a win could mean for his position in the coming years. The two teams had similar season, both playing in ludicrously tough divisions in their respective conferences and losing big to the their strong division opponents. BC has a great run defense, and Maryland likes to run the ball, especially behind sophomore Ty Johnson, who averaged nearly 10 yards per carry. On the other side, BC is clearly a run-first team despite averaging under 4 yards per carry with all their runnings backs, and Maryland’s run defense struggled all year. The matchup is close across the board, but given Towles’s motivation to leave college football a bowl champion and four extra week for the staff to prepare for the nation’s 127th-ranked run defense, my heart says the Eagles squeak by in Detroit.
Landon KomishaneBC 13-10
Ben NeuwirthMaryland 17-13
Conor HawleyBC 24-21Patrick Towles throws 3 TDs and gets MVP. Mike Knoll redeems himself from 2 yrs ago by kicking the game winner. Happy Festivus to all!
Kyle MaslanBC 24-17
Anthony IatiBC 14-13The third bowl game is the charm for Steve Addazio. The Eagles drew a pretty good matchup in Maryland and I expect the defense to rattle Perry Hills all afternoon. BC will limit the long runs the Terps have lived on this season, and Patrick Towles will make sure Tommy Sweeney and Jeff Smith get enough touches to get the offense into the end zone twice. Bet the under.
